Muse-letter: The one with the puppy

Muse-letter: The one with the puppy

Hey you! :)

I’m trying out a new platform for delivering both musings, personal events and the very best of the content I share on various platforms. So if you truly don’t want to miss my favorite links then yes, this is still the newsletter you want to stay with.

Business & Personal

  • My UX Podcast co-host James and I will be at Interact London October 18–19 to cover the conference and interview speakers, among them Lou Rosenfeld, Pamela Pavliscak and Sarah Doody.
  • I’ll be speaking at the Swedish public sector conference Webbdagarna Offentlig sektor on October 25 about the work processes that helped us build a national online platform for therapy, psychoeducation and rehabilitation.
  • My puppy is now 4 months old! I really hit the breaks in August when my family welcomed home a french bulldog puppy who just completely stole our hearts. Currently I’m working half-time from home until she’s old enough for doggie care.

You know you want a pic of her! She has her own Instagram account too:

Getting a tummy rub. Favorite thing in the world!

  • On World Usability Day, November 10, I will be doing a pretty deep, personal talk (at STIMDI’s event) on design ethics and my journey from junior designer to where I am today. The working title — translated — is My user, my human, my mistake.
  • Two weeks ago I did a talk about content-first design and content prototypes (In Swedish). Let me know if that’s something you might be interested in watching.
  • I am gradually signing up more coaching clients. Turns out that the Internet is actually a great place for selling your services. Who knew?
  • Work on my book is also going forward but slowly because… puppy! But you can sign up for updates on the book website: UX Sidekick.

I’ll let you get on with your work now. Or… maybe not. Below are some of my favorite links from the past week. I think you’ll find them to your liking.

Be good and remember to keep moving!

Coaching, listening and learning

This magic word will make you a great conversationalist

A big hint is that this has to do with being present and listening, but I really appreciate the mnemonic for remembering what to do: LOVE.

Tech & Gadgets

When her best friend died, she used artificial intelligence to keep talking to him

This is a long read, be prepared to cry… When her best friend died, she rebuilt him using artificial intelligence

Fairphone

With all that’s going on in the world I’ve actually decided my next phone will be a @Fairphone. Check out this neat company in the Netherlands.

Magnific Popup: Responsive jQuery Lightbox Plugin

Very hands-on, but I finally found a responsive and flexible lightbox/popup plugin for my prototyping work and I wanted to share it.

UX & Design

Dear Zipcar, here’s why I’m using your competitor

My friend Evgenia Grinblo has some trouble with Zipcar (a car sharing service) and wrote this great piece outlining her experience.

The Problem With Intuition In Digital Design

If we require everything to be intuitive, how can we improve and build something that no one has ever seen before?

What is UX? The definition that eludes us

I wrote this some weeks back but you may have missed it.

#140 Storymapping with Donna Lichaw — UX Podcast

I really enjoyed this podcast interview with Donna Lichaw about the concept of storymapping as explained in her book: The User’s Journey.
